“If I were to explain my job to a friend, I would say I work on the logic and data behind computer systems.”

Leigha is an IT Apprentice, studying at the University of the West of Scotland

Since an introductory coding course at school, Leigha has always known that she wanted to code and work with computers.

“I started my career knowing where I wanted to be and what I wanted to achieve. After gaining my HNC, I’ve continued my learning through an apprenticeship while gaining hands on experience through real-life projects here at WePurpose.”

While enjoying the logic and data aspects of a technical career, Leigha is also drawn to the creative aspects of IT. “I have a creative mind, and I’m excited to explore digital design and software to translate data and systems into user experiences.”

When working with clients, Leigha believes that the most important thing is clear communication. “I want to make sure clients feel heard and understood during all parts of the process. I make sure I fully understand the project and desired solution, which keeps everyone on the same page.”

When things do go wrong, Leigha advises, “Problems happen, but what’s important is how we deal with it. I advise clients to stay calm and keep communicating as this will help us understand what went wrong and what the solutions are.”

On her future at WePurpose, Leigha says: “It’s encouraging to be a part of a business that cares, not just about technology but about making an impact.”

Outside of work, Leigha spends a lot of time running. “I used to hate sports at school, but I’ve recently discovered running. I started with my Mum, and now my whole family are involved with me being the ringleader. With running, I love setting challenging goals for myself because although I know I can run, there’s always another goal to aim for.”
